Overview

Alpari is one of the oldest names in retail forex, with operations dating back to 1998. The broker has restructured several times across two decades but continues to serve clients globally under its current Mwali-based entity. Two-plus decades of operating history is a real advantage in a space where many competitors fold inside their first market correction.

Alpari positions itself as a multi-asset broker but its core remains forex and CFD trading. The broker supports MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, the two most widely used third-party platforms, and offers a tiered account structure that scales from beginner deposits up to dedicated ECN tiers for higher-volume traders.

Regulation & safety

Alpari operates under FSC (Mwali International Services Authority) — a tier-2 offshore regulator. This is weaker than FCA, ASIC, or CySEC oversight, but stronger than fully unregulated brokers. Client funds are held in segregated accounts and the broker has maintained a clean operational record on withdrawals.

For traders prioritizing regulatory protection, FCA-regulated alternatives offer stronger compensation schemes. But for traders comfortable with offshore oversight in exchange for broader access and account flexibility, Alpari's track record is one of the longer ones available.

Accounts

Alpari offers four main account types: Standard MT4/MT5 with fixed spreads, ECN with raw spreads and per-lot commission, and Pro for higher-deposit traders. Demo accounts are unlimited and don't expire, which is unusual — many brokers cut demo access after 30 days.

  • Standard — fixed spreads, $100 minimum deposit
  • ECN — raw spreads from 0.4 pips, $300 minimum deposit, $5 commission per lot
  • Pro — institutional-tier conditions, $25,000 minimum deposit

Fees & spreads

On Standard accounts, EUR/USD spreads typically run 1.2–1.6 pips during liquid sessions — average for the tier. The ECN account brings spreads down to 0.4–0.7 pips plus a $5 per-lot round-turn commission, which works out cheaper on volumes above ~3 lots per month.

Overnight swap fees are average for the industry. There's no inactivity fee on standard tiers, but accounts dormant for 12+ months without trading or withdrawal activity may be subject to closure procedures.

Platforms

Alpari supports MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 across desktop, web, and mobile. Both platforms come with full Expert Advisor (EA) support, so algorithmic and copy-trading users are well served. The mobile apps are functional but don't add anything beyond stock MT4/MT5 functionality.

There is no proprietary platform or TradingView integration. Traders who want cTrader or modern charting will need to look elsewhere — Pepperstone, IC Markets, and FxPro all carry cTrader alongside MetaTrader.

Asset coverage

Forex pairs are the core: 60+ currency pairs across majors, minors, and exotics. CFDs cover stock indices, individual equities, commodities (gold, silver, oil), and a limited selection of crypto CFDs.

  • Forex: 60+ pairs
  • CFDs on indices (US30, NAS100, GER40, etc.)
  • Stock CFDs (limited US + EU selection)
  • Commodities (gold, silver, oil, gas)

Deposits & withdrawals

Deposit methods include bank wire, credit/debit cards, and several payment processors. Withdrawal processing typically completes within 1 business day from Alpari's side; full bank settlement varies by region.

Crypto deposits (BTC, USDT) are accepted on some entities, which gives traders an alternative when bank rails are slow or expensive. There are no broker-side deposit fees, though payment processors may charge their own.

Customer service

Support is available via live chat, email, and phone. English-language support runs 24/5 during market hours. Response times in our testing averaged under 5 minutes on live chat and same-business-day on email.

Verdict

Alpari earns its place on shortlists for traders who value operational longevity and account-type flexibility over the strongest possible regulator. The two-decade track record matters, the platforms are solid, and the ECN tier is genuinely competitive on cost. The trade-off is the tier-2 offshore regulatory structure — fine for many, but traders who specifically need FCA or ASIC protection should look at FxPro or IC Markets instead.
